Carol Kidd to headline

at Largs Jazz Festival

Largs Jazz Festival – 1st – 3rd June 2007

Direct from her highly successful appearances at the Shanghais Jazz festival, International jazz vocalist, Carol Kidd MBE, will headline at this years Largs Jazz Festival together with her own quartet for their only performance in Scotland this summer. Awarded her MBE for services to jazz, her many accolades include “Best British Jazz Vocalist", “Best Album” and “Best International Jazz Vocalist”.

Carol has performed with Frank Sinatra and many of the all time jazz greats such as George Shearing, Larry Adler, Martin Taylor, Stephan Grappelli and Georgie Fame. Amongst Carols repertoire will undoubtedly be new material from her recently recorded album which will be released later this year. This is a must see performance for all jazz fans!

Joining the Largs line-up is Todd Gordon, with his tribute to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mel Tormé. Todd regularly performs at the most prestigious venues in Scotland, London and New York as well as the top international jazz festivals.

Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra add traditional jazz to the bill with the music of Jelly Roll Morton, Joe Oliver and many more. The Classic Jazz Orchestra give the music fresh and inventive new arrangements which are well-played and very enjoyable.

Bill Salmond and his Louisiana Ragtime Jazz Band bring you the sound of the New Orleans dance halls of the 1920’s and 30’s, and the Largs Academy Swing Band will give a roof-raising performance of jazz classics.

Largs Jazz Festival Brolly Parade will take place through the streets of Largs led by members of the Largs Academy Swing Band at 11.30am on the Saturday from Morrisons Supermarket  The towns’ restaurants and pubs are also supporting the festival with appearances of LA Jazz, Driver & Lightbody and Bobby Wishart’s All-stars at Lounge, Swing Guitars at Charlie Smiths, Basically Jazz at Clachan, Liquid Jazz at McCabes and the Maria Speight Quartet at Fluid.  And, for the first time, a Jazz service will be held at Clark Memorial Church at 7.00pm on Sunday 3rd June with Largs Churches Together and jazz vocalist, Maria Speight.
